My own music post
Dec. 14th, 2009 01:13 amOkay, because I've been enjoying everyone's music posts, and cause I can't sleep. I'm doing one. HOWEVER mine is focusing on one band. Because Kara included my all time favorite song ever (Go or Go Ahead) in her post. And Meg has already done one for Nick Drake before plus has access to the really good, roughly recorded stuff. BTW if you don't know Time has Told Me or Saturday Sun by Nick Drake, your life is not complete.
Anyway, I want to talk about my favorite CD. Rock Spectacle by the Bare Naked Ladies. Most people know them as that band who had that annoying chickety china the chinese chicken song. Yes, that's them. BUT that's them after their glory days. BNL is a wee Canadian band that got sort of famous for making up songs live, and for the chemistry of the two lead singers to play off of each other. Unfortunately, the main lead singer ended up being a coke head who got busted with a lot of strippers, so the band has basically broken up.
The glory days, however, were the mid 90's. Rock Spectacle is a live album splicing two different concerts, one in Montreal and one somewhere else cold in Canada. You will hear some references to things, like in If I had 1,000,000 dollars that happened to them on tour. I've also included one other song from their later work, a hidden gem amongst the chickey chinese chickens.
Also, they sing the theme song to The Big Bang Theory. Give them a chance. They write some of the most lovely songs I've ever heard and this has been my favorite cd for 13 years. I've included what I consider their better songs, the rest of the cd is fun, but more of their off the cuff music.
